clutch replacement. cost? time before its dead?
okay i think the stock clutch on my civic just started going last week..i havent really been driving it since then because i'm trying to sell it and dont want it to get worse.
what are the signs of a going clutch? right now it drives fine, but no matter where you are in the powerband..if you floor it, the revs just fly up (no tach, dx cluster) and you dont really go anywhere.
i know another oem clutch is around 100 bucks, but how much does it typically cost to replace it. normally i'd attempt it on my own, but it averages 20 degrees here.
how much longer before the clutch is completely gone?

put the car in 3rd at a dead stop. let out the clutch and hit the gas and if the car DOES NOT die, your clutch is bad. usually your looking to pay around 375-550 depending on the shop. too bad you dont live in utah. id do it localy for $75 + 12pk. of bud light + parts.

Well, the time it takes to replace a clutch is about 5 hours. I remember pep-boys would charge like 50-60 bux for an hour of work. Thats like 250-300 dollars of just work. You still have to worry about the price of the clutch.
As far as the time goes, we can only guess, we don't know how long its been like this. I can guess, but that won't really do you any good.
I'd say 6 weeks. I am probably overshooting it though.

it all depends on how you drive it. i know someone who lasted a day and a half once the clutch was like that, but i also know someone who lasted 3 months and the car died before the clutch did. as long as you don't push it to make it slip at all, it will wear a minimal amount off, but if you make it slip, it will burn off immediately.

man every time i hear about taking things to a shop it amazes me how much less i have to pay. I got my clutch replaced and flywheel resurfaced for a total of 250 with tax. I have to get my tranny replaced but they are going ot charge me 277 to get it out and put it back in. they would of charged me around 350 with flywheel resurfaced if i did it all at once....and this is one of the best place in town too....
