Default car wont start

Alright so I have an 88 hatch DX. Originally it had d15b2...I swapped ls and have been driving the car for about a month. One day I turned on my car to let ir warm up and after being on for 2 minutes. My car turned off very smoothly, so I when I tried to turn on car wouldn't turn over. My car has a push button starter switch so to start my car I turn ignition to 2nd (on) position and push button to turn over starter which then truns motor over. Well right now I have spark and fuel and the starter spins but the motor doesn't turn over and start. What can be wrong? Ignition switch?

I'm not an expert, but when my ignition switch went out, my starter didn't spin. So I don't think that the ignition switch.

Yea difference between ur switch and mine is that my 3rd (start) position doesn't turn starter cuz I re routed the wires from starter to a separate push switch. So I don't even need my keys and I can turn starter over, but my car will not turn on unless my key is in ignition and on the on position.

ignition coil might have went bad and not giving enough spark. I woud suggest main relay, but if your getting fuel, spark and starter spinning, it's probably isn't that.

Actually yes. The ignition coil on my crx went out and the car would just crank and crank all day long. Although when it went out i was getting no spark, so that may not be the problem on your car, but it wouldn't help to try. When you say the starter spins, does the engine try to start or does it make winding noise?

yea i couldnt imagine your car cranking with a bad ignition switch, but to rule it out, you could bypass that switch...just hook a jumper wire from your battery straight to your starter (positive/negative)...but since you have spark, i would check your rotor, i've seen the main bearing in the distributor melt the rotor, an actually twist it on the shaft causing it to fire in the wrong order, so you could be getting spark, just not in the right order. long story short..needs a distributor.

ps its always good to check fuses an grounds first. rule out the easy stuff first. good luck.

Ok u guys are missing a piece in my story...my car does not crank with the ignition switch. I have a push switch in beteen the battery and the igniton prong. On starter so my car cranks if I push button, I don't need to have key in cylinder. But car will crank and crank if I don't put key in cylinder and turn to on. I am on my way home right now to work on my hatch. Let me noe if u have any more ideas
