I went out driving my car i had purchased yesterday and when i stopped i would smell a wierd burning smell almost like tires bieng burnt. there is no oil leaking tho engine is very clean. the muffler did break off right at the end. im wondering if this could be the problem? car does not overheat or anything seems to run well i just keep smelling a wierd smell when we come to a stop at a stoplight and sit for like 5 minutes. it does not do it when sitting in a parking lot and idling only after we have been driving it after awhile.

if anyone has any ideas please tell me.

Anyone? if u have any the slightest idea of what this could be pls tune in. im no mechanic and just starting to get into working on cars and need some ideas of what to checkout.

Catalytic Converter starting to go bad?

That's my only guess.

clutch doesn't slip? get out after driving and see if any wheel is significantly hotter than the rest, it could be dragging....

only other thing to do is pop the hood & look for smoke, try to isolate that smell

Ya know it just may be the catalytic converter. i dunno wtf these things do but the exhaust system has defenitally seen better days? what should i look for anything in praticular? i looked for smoke did not see anything burning. the 2 front tires are pretty damn bald also. i did not feel any dragging tho car ran fine. what would make the tires drag? i do have a cv joint going out on the front drivers side.
