Battery Issue - Battery Light coming on
Whats up guys. I have a b16 in my 90si hatch and it always required a smaller battery because of the intake. I had previously used a stinger battery that was nearly square and really short. That battery pretty much died so I replaced it with a Kinetik HC600, which is about the same size as the Odyssey batteries but is better on paper with performance.
Anyway, I have been trying to drive the car around and the battery light keeps coming on. It will go off if I reach high RPM (4k+). Is this a sign that the alternator is bad or that the alternator cannot supply enough power to keep the battery charged because the battery is defective?
Mor importantly: what in the ECU triggers the battery light - is it a minimum voltage or current or what?
Thanks for any help with this issue.

yeah, my guess is that it is your alternator, take it off and take it to parts store and have it tested.

Thanks. Once I get my maxima back from the shop I'll pull it. Given the b16, is the replacement the stock alternator for a 90si? I thought alternators were based on OBD (OBD0 in this case), so that should be true.

Well you will need an OBD0 alts but you will need it from a car with a Bseries motor already so you should get one from a 90-91 Ingetra, any GS, RS, LS alt will work for ya...
If you have the stock D series Alt you can make it work, i accually am running a D series on my LS-T, you need the upper mount from a D Series motor, some washers and a D series alt belt...I can probably find you the link to see how to do it if you are interested in going that route...

I'd say alternator
Take a wrench or long extension ad hit the alternator ( right in the middle theres a black strip where the brushes are) that may free the brushes and if that works you could robably get away with buying hte brushes and rebuilding your alternator
much cheaper then buying a new one
(THis is currently the situtaion im in, the light comes on every once in a while or the lights start to surge when it gets low on power or something real annoying.)

Re: (ricodemus)
any b series alternator will work. the 89-95 b series alternators are the same. the 96 up have a different plug but will work if you splice a new plug on or swap regulators from the old one

that actually makes a little sense since they advertise 90-95 on ebay
