Automatic transmission questions
Hi. My name is Eric and I am the proud owner of a white 1991 civic dx. I have had the car for a year now and want to do an engine swap . Problem is the wife can't drive manual, and she needs to drive the car. Now I know a b18 swap can be dome with a standard transmission but can it be done with an automatic tranny? If so how?

Re: Automatic transmission questions
That will be what I would do once I have exhausted all my possibilities but I know there is so much being done with the b engines I would hope there was an answer for me..btw thanks for the reply

Re: Automatic transmission questions
With the b series being as popular as it is I figured it has been done. Would you happen to have any links, pics, or any info on that? Thanks for the response.

Re: Automatic transmission questions
I'm paralyzed so I drive with hand controls which means I'm stuck with an auto. To get a b18 auto to fit we had to notch the passanger side frame, custom rh mount, modify rear mount, modify rh radius rod, and wire in the transmission control module which is 28 wires. So my advice is stick with a d or learn how to drive a stick. Way too much work IMO.

Re: Automatic transmission questions
Just throwing it out there, you could run a dohc zc.
Plugs right in. just need to splice in a dizzy plug and ecu.
I'm sorry, you said a dx. You need to convert to mpfi first

Re: Automatic transmission questions
While fabricating a mount for an automatic transmission in a B-swapped EF will be a challenge, the BIGGER challenge is trying to fit the transmission itself. I don't know if you have seen an automatic B-series transmission, but they are ALOT bigger than the manual transmissions. Not only that, but they are more cylindrical rather than conical like a manual transmission. Given that the B-series manual transmission extends beyond the passenger frame rail (and tucks somewhat under it), you will probably have to make extensive modifications to the passenger side frame rail in order to allow it to fit. So unless you MUST have this car with an automatic AND a B-series motor (and have LOTS of cash to spend),I would forget about doing this swap. Going D-series is a better idea if you need to run an automatic transmission.
Probably the best motor would be a D16Z6. It puts out 125HP vs 108 from a stock A6 (or 92HP from a stock DX motor). Plus, you can get the whole package with an automatic transmission and ECU.
But honestly, it might be better in the end to just get your wife a different car. Perhaps something good and reliable, but with no performance aftermarket (like a Corolla).

single gingle sucks get a dohc b18b1 or b18a1. b18 a1 would be better for u with the tranny cause of cable shifter but you still can put the b18a1 cable tranny on the b18b1 engine and you will still have more fun than a sohc any day or get a b20b like i was saying in my older posts b20 +b18auto tranny + ef = AUTOMATIC POCKET ROCKET SLEEPER
