Automatic transmission in 1990 CRx????
I recently bought a 1990 Crx with a automatic transmission. I bought the car for my son for a first car. I would like to know if there are any other automatic transmissions that will fit in this car? The original transmission needs some work and I thought someone on this board could offer some advice on a better automatic transmission for a swap?
Thanks Mark

Okay, the engines that came stock in the civic's and crx's of this generation are called the "D" series engine, there is a stamp on the front of the block right beside the transmission that will say the exact engine code, chances are it's a D15B2. Any automatic out of the 88-91 civic/crx will fit (as long as it's a stock, non swapped, D series), but if i recall correctly, they are all the same gear ratios.
5 speed swaps are very popular for the automatic cars.

I did it to one of my crx's, so hard to get rust free cars in MN, and its not TOO bad if you have some skill. The biggest pain was unbolting the old pedals and putting in new ones, that sucked. The only other thing is after you have to keep the old auto shifter switch in park or the car won't run. You can rewire to get rid of that but I'm just to lazy. Good luck

I got the impression from the first post that he is intending to keep it automatic?

I have done it before, and if you have a parts car, it's a piece of cake. If you're picking up piece by piece, it might take a while. The hardest part is swapping the pedal cluster over. It's a worthwhile swap because the 5 speed transmissions have better gear ratios and can definitely take more abuse, and for 98% of people, a manual transmission is a lot more enjoyable to drive than an automatic.
Here is one of the only active links I could find the the FAQ, but there is more if you use the search function.
