Air conditioner issues
Hi, I just bought a 88 crx hf. The a/c had a leak and was barely cooling(still used R12). Well I found the leak, replaced one of the pressure lines. disassembled the entire system, flushed everything except the compressor. The third small port where the txv threaded into the evaporator was completely clogged (I unclogged it) replaced all o-rings, txv, and receiver/drier. added new oil, pulled vacuum for 45 minutes. Vacuum held for 30 minutes. Added first can of refrigerant 6 oz. (Red Tek 12a). Started car and turned a/c on high. Low and high pressures stayed the same around 110. The temp was about 65 out the the center vent.
1. Should I not have unclogged the tiny port on the evaporator ?
2. Is my compressor bad ? (low and high pressure remained equal at about 110 PSI)
Any advice appreciated, thanks

Re: Air conditioner issues
why do you think the tiny line on the txv was completely plugged ? It looked like white calcium deposits. Did I do right by cleaning it out ?

Should have changed your expansion valve and dryer not cleaned
Next the low side should be around 35 with compressor running and around 150 on high
They only equal out when compressor is not flowing or off

I did replace expansion valve and drier. Should I replace them again if I change out the compressor ?
The port I cleaned out was on the evaporator itself. Could this have been plugged for a reason ?

Cleaning anything is a good thing on ac systems
As long as the compressor didn't shatter the old parts u have should be good
Are you sure your compressor isn't on
sounds like it's not kicking on or just bad
You should be able to turn compressor by hand with engine off

The compressors from the ED/EFs are outdated and crap. You are better off retrofitting a newer compressor. I've tried factory EF set ups in the past and finding a good compressor is difficult around here. Later I used the Integra compressor with my B18C1 swap and made custom lines. Worked amazing until I temporarily disconnected it.
I was all for those little R12a cans until I seen reports and photos of what happened locally when those systems leaked out. After seeing a townhouse light on fire from a leaking system in the driveway and the insurance claim centers pictures of a blown apart front end on a Chevy truck I decided I would buck up and pay for the R134a.
I'm not trying to lecture you and say you need to do the same, I know budgets can be tight but it's something for you to think about
PS there is a thread on here and crx community on retrofitting a newer D series compressor, best of luck.

Thanks for all the replies, Seems the gauge set I used from auto-zone was not operating correctly. I put on a cheap set of gauges and continued servicing. The a/c is working awesome now. The reason I did not do the R134 conversion is I heard it does not cool as well.
