Default are 90"crx hf brakes that bad?

i have a 90 crx HF and braking in this car feels so soft... from all the cars ive driven, the HF doesnt have Bite. i just recentley changed my Master cylinder because mine was going out *at stops my brake pedal would hit the floor* and it brakes better but not what i was hoping. could i use the SI master cylinder to get better response, or what ive read around the 900-91 ex 4 door master cylinder.... oh and yes i just changed my brake pads too and rotors are fine...

For the best upgrade, I would go with the following:

90-93 Integra Front Brakes

90-91 CRX Si Rear Disc Brakes

90-91 EX MC or 90-93 Integra Non-ABS MC & BB

Steel Braided Brake Lines

Believe me, you will feel like it stops on a dime.

sounds very interesting but if i were to put the integra front brakes would i have to get the integra knuckles as well? also, could i just put the ex MC for now, since i have like 20 days to return/exchange my new one. thanks for the input

Yes, you would use the 90-93 Integra knuckles. Sure you can go with the 90-91 Civic EX MC.

well first of all, everything youve described about your brakes is simply because you have failed to maintain your car properly. its not a problem with your brakes inherently being HF. it sounds like you just need to bleed the brakes anyway. do you even know when you changed your brake fluid? its like not knowing when the last time you changed your oil... and then wondering why the engine sucks and then being told you need to swap a B18 in there.

now, HF brakes are undersized. and upgrading parts is easy. but you dont have to go with the biggest, baddest brakes either.

simple REBUILT front caliper swap from a DX, and new DX master cylinder and good bleeding will do WONDERS for your braking. you may have to diagnose bad rear wheel cylinder (drums) or old brake lines in need of replacement also, but thats again all part of properly maintaining your brakes.

stock braking is sufficent for the street. you should have no problem locking up the wheels, unless youre on really sticky tires.

when you say 90-91 ex MC..is that for 4 door or 2 door? or does it even matter

The 90-91 EX only came in a 4-door.

Try flushing/bleeding the brakes with some new fluid. If there is any moisture in your fluid (which there probably is) flushing will relieve some of that mushy pedal feel.

i agree with tyson...

I too have an HF and I never had a problem with my standard HF brakes even when i went with a Bseries swap. Just try replacing all your possible faulty/worn parts before you dive into swapping out knuckles, shaving brackets, and upgrading to 11inch rotors

anyways if you have a stock HF...you dont need that much stopping power

old/ moisture/ decreases the boiling point of the fluid... NOT GOOD u want the fluid to take some heat any ways i doubt this guy bench blead his master cylinder before installin i think he has air in the MC

yea just maintain your car and it will work great. my HF stops great all I did was Hawk HPS pads and new brake rotors tighten up the drums bleed it out, bam! I can stop quicker and more repeated without fade than my friend's 99 civic si.

The 88 Civic DX brakes are even an upgrade, the HF ones are just really really small for weight reasons of course. If you are looking for the stopping power of a B series without sourcing the EX knuckles or grinding your pads every change in the future, you may want to consider this hybrid setup that uses 11.1" brakes on your HF knuckles.

Its for an EK with the small brakes, but it works on EFs too with the small brakes, and your knuckles ought to be the same as the STD and DX models from 88-91.

Just curious. How exactly do you run stock HF brakes with a B-series swap? Did you just swap the HF stuff onto DX/SI knuckles?
