89 Civic DX corner light assembly removal and bulb replacement
My 89 Civic DX hatchback has a burned-out corner bulb. The lens is held on by two screws, but is held firmly in place even when these are removed.
There is a black plastic clip/guide right behind the assembly that appears to be holding the assembly in place.
My question is:
- to remove the corner light assembly what comes after 'unscrew the two screws holding on the lens'?
Some of the videos I've seen online (none for an 89 hatch, alas) seem to suggest this whole assembly should just slide forward and out to give access to the bulb sockets &c but neither of my corners slide forward at all. I have to think there's a way to 'release' this clip but looking at the assembly no obvious answer reveals itself and I don't want to screw something up trying to force or pry anything.
I can post pics if needed.
Your advice and guidance is –as ever– most appreciated. -Wes

You just need to remove the one screw on top of the corner light. Its inside the fender area. then it will slide forward. The two screws you removed need to go back in (assuming you removed the lens screws)

i think when i had my 89 sedan it just fell off. mabye theres some silicone or other sealiant holding it on. i would CARFULY try prying it off. or sliding it foward toward the bumper.

All the videos/tutorials I found online were for this generation of EF, you're right. The single screw that seems to make it so easy for other Civic owners is utterly absent from my 89. Thanks for the advice, which kinda' reconfirms my suspicions that I just need to wiggle & slide a little more vigorously.

No worries, amigo. I'm finding it's definitely different in a lot of ways compared to the next-gen EFs. I'm going to have to buy a Haynes or Chilton manual to cover the stuff the service manual omitted, methinks.
