D16A8 automatic transmission
D16A9
I have searched high and low and I can't locate any information on my JMD 1.6l DOHC auto equipped CR-X. Will USDM auto bolt right up? Thanks in advance.

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
Is your engine obd1 or obd0. The trans has to match the obd system that the engine is running on. Just this year I gave up trying to find an obd0 automatic for my d15b2. So I got a obd1 auto which are everywhere in the junkyard and now I’m going to swap the motor and trans to ob1. Sucks too bc my d15b2 barley has 169k miles still lots of life left in it.

@Efmysedan
According to this I have a D16A9, obd0
D16A9
Found in:
1988-1991 Civic/CRX/Concerto (UK/Europe)
1989-1996 Rover 216/416 GTI (UK/Europe)
Displacement : 1590 cm3
Bore and Stroke : 75 mm X 90 mm
Compression : 9.5:1
Power : 130 hp @ 6800 rpm & 108 ft·lbf @ 5700 rpm
Valvetrain : DOHC
Fuel Control : OBD-0 MPFI
It did not occur to me to look for an OBD0. The search was already difficult, now its almost impossible. If I could find a reputable shop to perform a turn key 5 speed swap, I would be all over that.

That’s pricey bros idk if your in Europe but that’s more $
if you really want that it’s out there
Depending on the miles on your motor I would swap all if you have more than a lot of miles
If you find an engine dealer they will know of spots to swap it they may even offer that
does your valve cover say 16 valve and have strips? If it does post a pic

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
Thank you so much. It will take me just a few to figure out how to post a pic. Btw, I am in Texas, but the car was imported from Japan.

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
Bruh thats too baller how much was that and how much was it to import. I’m interested in exporting one of my ef’s to Japan. Did you test the solenoid. How many solenoids do you have one or two?

Dude, I am a total noob. This is the car my wife wanted when we were dating in college, and I told her not now but one day. Well one day recently came. I just retired and purchased it for her through an importer in the states. It runs awesome, but the 2 - 3 shift slips under anything more than medium throttle. Funny thing is, when I manually shift it, it works fine. Between finding all the odd timing belt items, to identifying the tranny, I am going to lose my mind. Please tell me what tranny it is.
Solenoids? One or two......Uh lemme just stop you right there
FOUND IT! It has two solenoids and it says ML4A. Thank you THank you

That’s pimp bros
so two huh 🤔
mine only has one and it was impossible to find again. Obd1 trans have two solenoids idk if you can get away with that a senior member will have to let you know.
I’m sure it will still drive anywhere as does mine currently also slipping 2nd into third
pro tip though lol at no more than 2200 rpms will get you just passed 20mph where it shifts into 3rd
yea man that’s an 88 looks like lots of odd part numbers that auto parts don’t know about. the right person though will pay a pretty penny for that motor alone.
Texas has a ton of shops that can swap in d16z6 or d16y8 for I’d say around 1500
engine trans
harness and computer
plus wiring

Nice to see another Texan on here lol
Im not too familiar with JDM or automatics but wouldn’t the USDM 86-89 Integra automatic be very similar to this? Both have the DOHC d-series.
Even if you can’t find a replacement trans - is rebuilding it (at a shop) worth it to you? The rebuild kits are probably similar.

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
They might be similar like he said that’s why last night I found an old thread with people complaining that a d16a? Auto trans has different mounts than the other d series and nothing fits to it it’s an odd man out like the b20b assuming you know about the b20b

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
Show us the mounts on the tranny and take a pic too of the transmission Housing from the side of the right wheel. So in other words take a picture of the top if you were to lay it on it’s most flat side.

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
What year is the Crx? I never asked. And sorry I can’t really see the transmission mounts your air box and battery have to come out. I see your engine and trans listed on eBay as 92-95 so maybe you can get away with another d series auto from an obd1 92-95 civic.

Re: D16A8 automatic transmission
Yes I see in the pictures they have an m24a transmission Attached to it. which is supposed to come from the del sol. I just pulled that exact transmission for my ef at the junkyard out of a del sol and another nearby del sol had the same m24. That del sol had a d15b vtec I didn’t check the ecu but it should have been a obd1 p08. I think your good to use a obd1 transmission. Shop around and swap it out
