98 Civic Ex auto. tranny went out. Bought another tranny with torque converter. What I need to know is the correct way to fill the New y8 tq converter before installing it on the tranny gear then installing it on the motor. Do I fill the TQ 1st with Honda ATF then install on the gear? Also the gear oil that was in the tranny was drained. How many qts. of oil do I need to fill it back up?

Ive always worked on manual civics. Im helping a friend out on his auto. We both are new to the auto set ups and want to do the job the correct way. I did a search and read the FAQ links. But nothing was explained about the fluids. Just explained how the TQ converter worked.. If you have knowledge in auto trannys please help me out with your know how, links to other build/projects like what Im doing. Thanks.

the they both take about 3qts. Dump some in the hole in the center of the TC (you probably can't get it all in) Installed TC on trans and then install the whole thing, add the rest of the fluid.

Make sure you flush out the lines and cooler before you put the new trans in.

normally I put 1 or 2 quarts in the converter depends on the size, after install the trans. and all the lines and accessories I add 2 or 3 quarts more, start the car and begin to measure it to the right spot in the dip stick. Normally I work with Mitsubishi and Toyota but is the same process.

I was told to spin the converter while it was on the ground and pour in the ATF. Has anyone tried this? And both of you who posted helped me out a ton with your posts.
