Default Why is there oil in my intake??

I'm putting on a Skunk2 IM and when I got my stock GSR intake off I notice a film INSIDE the manifold. Further checking shows it to be OIL. My best guess is its coming into the intake from this small black box on the back of the block where the PCV valve is. Is this normal?

I think it's blow-by.

Oil vapor is going out of your valve cover and into your intake. Not much of a big deal. Just keep an eye on oil levels.

It may be a bad thing. Do a compression test. Oil might mean bad rings.

Install a catch can. Correct me if I'm wrong, butI think the oil from the blow by can actually decrease the octane level of the gas.

they purposely run excess oil from the valve cover and pcv back to the intake pipe and intake manifold(respectively) to help with emissions, but it does create a dirty fuel mix and affects octane rating. get a catch can if you can, it will clean up the intake manifold and give you better performance, i havn't gotten around to doing one yet but i will.

yes install a catch can and check your pcv valve if your dumping lots of oil in your intake there should be a little if your drive your car hard but just a little sounds like you need to do an engine overhaul

does your tail pipe smoke alittle.. dark smoke.. dark is oil burning, white is lean... catch can should do it all, unless you shine it on.. or reseal your head, and rering the bottom end.. your call.

No smoke from the tail pipe. I do drive pretty hard, I hit vtec at least once a day. There is not oil sitting in the manifold. It had a very thin film at the head end of the runners. It would barely show up on my finger if I rubbed it. I thought it was kinda odd that it wasn't dry in there. When I traced the line to the PCV, it goes to what looks like a factory type catch can. It made sense as to where the oil came from after I took it off and looked at it. I put it back on for now till I get a different set up. Thanks for all the input.

Most b-series have blow by in the high rpms. A catch can is a very good idea

It's normal, don't worry about it. Catch can would be a solution, but it's not really a problem.
