Speed wobble help
Ok so a few months ago before i deployed i hate a pot hole on the free way going about 70, ever since then when i accel or just drive around the front end shakes. sometimes when i get on a bumpy road it shakes. i have brand new tires all the way around so it isn't them. also when i turn the wheel i get a weird sort of grinding noise, but it isn't grinding more like when u put a card in ur bicycle spokes. i don't want to rip the whole front end off trying to fix this as it is my only car at the moment, but i was wondering what could it be? it is only the drivers side. any help on what to look at or for would be appreciated.

get your wheels balnced and see if you didn't bend a rim, if that's not it, get it aligned and it'll tell you if you did bend something, your caster will be way off.

Re: Speed wobble help
Are you getting a ticking when your turning? like a loud and obvious knocking noise(Not and engine knock). or is it only when your trying slow and foward?

Yeah, i'm almost 100% positive it's your CV-Joint's i've went threw it twice with my mother's car, twice with my fathers eg and once with my eg lol If you have a local mechanic shop near you, just ask them if they could have a quick look, they won't charge you unless you want them to fix it. Pretty easy fix.

Re: Speed wobble help
What exactly do you mean by Wobble? is it bouncing between speeds as your driving? Because that can EASILY just be your cluster. But the ticking as your turning is your CV-joints(Possible also your CV Axles) if you want you can make a video of the sound while someone is making a turn and your outside of the car and i can fully diagnose the problem. Your best best is to have a mechanic look it.

Re: Speed wobble help
when i am driving it wobbles, the whole car. not the cluster, but the whole car. it shakes in the front end really bad, it kind of feels like burning out with no traction when it just hops until it catches.

Re: Speed wobble help
well the clicking noise is from cv-joints. Now the dash shaking can be so many different things, can be the dash not secured. Cracked now it moves more. So many things. Like i said your best bet and sure fire way of knowing, is taking it to your local mechanic

Alignment, period. Go get it done. If any suspension components are shot, they'll be able to tell you. In fact, they won't be able to align your car with broken suspension components.

Re: Speed wobble help
Hit a huge pothole myself, ended up denting my wheels and screwing up my CV axle (replaced the replica wheels with SI's and bought a new axle on RockAuto for $50). Jack it up, put it on stands if you have (if you don't, now's a good time to invest in one unless you only intend to have shops do your labor for you). Do a 12-6 and 3-9 (analog clock numbers) shake test on your tires when they're off the ground, make sure the wheels are straight. Next shake the CV joint and see if there's any abnormal play.
If you hit a pothole, it's possible it dented the inside of the wheel and you don't notice it, get the tires rotated at a shop and make sure they balance them too, it should be a part of the rotation servicing. If it's minor, a weight or two could hopefully fix it, if not a new wheel(s) will be necessary.
here's a video of me shaking my CV axle when I had the problem a few months ago

Re: Speed wobble help
Sounds like you got what is common in jeeps. It is called a "death wobble". It usually only happens at 50+ speed and stops when you slow way down. Go have your alignment checked and check out the entire front end. Sounds like some thing is seriously bent.
