I have a 1998 Honda Civic and recently the windshield was damaged. I want to get an OEM or a windshield that is made by the manufacturer that originally made the windshield that came with this car in 1998. I've heard some cars in earlier years had windshields that were prone to cracking so in later years the auto manufacturer sourced the windshields from someone else and with better results. With that in mind, I wanted to know if any changes have been made to Honda windshields for the '96-'00 model years where the later models have better windshields or something. I don't want a crap windshield from someone like safelite as they tend to use generic mouldings and the windshield might not be a perfect fit, thinner, etc. and may lead to the intrusion of wind noise or would be more prone to breaking.

I infact have the cheapest winshield available in my 95

it is an FY. ppg made the original glass. i installed the glass myself. there are minimal differences between the glasses themselves. but only cheap brands or Brand name (singular in almost all cases) are available. Safelight and Guardian have their own brands. but they are suppliers as well and as it is not a safelite brand of windshield that has cheap moldings, but it is how the moldings are installed that makes them cheap. unfortunately, your car has a molding around the whole windshield. Brands are a big thing, but properly installed is the biggest. i had an installer that knew what he was doing to guide me through the process.
