Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
So i freakin went to go loosen my lugs's and i jacked up my car got them all off and the last lug nut wouldnt come off, it feels like im tightening it when i try to loosen it and it now spins freely and wabbles.... i cant get my wheel off!! any way to do this, taking it to firestone to see if they can use a impact gun to get it off... anyone know how much this cost to fix?! oh and its on the driver side front wheel hub

the stud must have stripped out in the wheel hub
GL on that one, the only thing i can think of is getting the wheel stud to sit while you spin the lugnut
maybe you can weld the back of the wheel stud so it can sit stationary

try putting the full weight of the car on the wheel with the other 3 hand tight and see if that helps. a impact gun comes in handy in times like these, even the cheap ones that walmart carries and are electrical. 200 ft/lbs tq > you

Re: Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
thanks, would i have to put full weight of the car on it? would that prevent the stud from spinning?

Re: Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
that is the same bitch problem i had too
what i did is grind away the nut
like cutting into the nut then i drilled in the stud until it collapsed onto itself by drilling lots of little holes that broke the nut up
and dont worry about the rims as nothing happened to mines except you need to be ginger with the grinder

Are the studs hardened? Could you drill out the stud? Tacking the studs in place from the back isn't a bad idea. If you have to replace on later, it'd be easy enough to cut with a little cutoff wheel.

studs are hardened, trust me i know
well you could always get a drill bit the size of the stud and drill into it until it collapses

Nice rims or crappy rims? If they are crappy rims (like steelies), you could spin it so the one you're trying to get off is at the bottom. Then pull the bottom of the wheel forward and push the top of the wheel back, while loosening the lug nut. That way there is more tension on it. Of if you really don't care about the rim, and can fit one in there, stick a pry bar in there against the back end of the lug nut to create more tension, and loosen it.

Re: Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
Then go to walmart, buy a 25 dollar grinder, cut the thing off like the other guy said and pocket the other 30 bucks you save not taking it to the shop. Or, take it to the shop and after they take it off replace it so it doesn't happen again. Is the problem the nut or the stud? If the stud stripped out in the back, you MIGHT have to replace the wheel cylinder. Well, not the whole thing, but the part that holds the studs. If you take it off to replace the one, might as well replace all 4.

Can you get to the back of the stud? Is there any space to grab the stug with some vice grips from the back while you remove the lug nut?

Re: Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
theres no way to get the back the wheel is in the way
and you dont have to change the whole wheel cylinder but since you need to change the stud now you need to take the bearing out to change the stud
or you can always run just 3 studs

Re: Wheel stud broke?! wheel wont cant come off!
running 3 studs although safe, and as much as I hate to say it it is safe, is not a good idea. The car will drive fine with 3 lug nuts, but what will happen under a high load, or tight turn, or what if another wheels stud or lug nut breaks ( I have seen this happen) and then you have 2 nuts....Your ****ed. Best bet is to grind it off from the front, and GO SLOW! take your time and cut the lug nut off then slide the wheel off.
