It needs to be a 96-98 Ex ECU because that ECU plugs directly into your 97 Civic without a conversion harness. Should you have choosen to go with a 99-00 Ex ECU, the story wouldn't be the same.
So just get a 96-98 Ex ECU and that should do it...but it's still no gauruntee unless your Civic is also an Ex and even then it's not a gauruntee. For example, not all 96-98 hatchbacks came with a FTP sensor but (I'm pretty sure) all 96-00 Ex's did come with one. So if that's the case, you're screwed unless you want to fit that sensor and the related plumbing into your non-Ex Civic.

to be 100% positive you have the right one, you need a P2P-A33(2dr) or P2P-A03(4dr). (printed on label on side of case)
logically you could switch the two but I'm not sure.
FYI there are 33 different versions of the P2P out there.

yeah i know there are many diffrent variations for the P2P out there .
well i do know that im currently running a P73 ecu with my B16 setup and i beleive we did use the stock EX harness.
am i right . the p73 harness is the same as the harness or the D16Y8 ?
