Default Upper ball joint removal

Everywhere I read says that I need to replace the entire UCA to replace the upper ball joint on the front driver side. I have been told by my cousin who is an ASE certified mechanic that the ball joint can be removed and replaced. I already ordered the ball joint from advance auto parts who were shocked to see that the ball joint was sold separate which would indicate that yes it can be replaced withougt doing the UCA also. If I can get away with just this I would be much happier since it would save me money and the time (I need to have it replaced this weekend and no UCA in stock at the stores). I would like confirmation of this but I still will attempt it anyway since I already paid for it. The car is a 1992 Civic hatch. Thanks

yes it can be replaced seperately. what kind of press do you have? if you had to think about it, then started replying that you didn't have one, maybe you ought to return the ball joint and buy the whole UCA

You can change your UCA ball joint only if it has a clip on it. Some UCA don't have the clip which means you will need to replace the entire UCA. I ran into this issue when I replaced my UCA on my CRX. If you can take a picture of your UCA from the side view where the ball joint is I can probably tell you. If your UCA ball joints can be replaced with just the ball joint. And you will need to rent the ball joint removal tool from Kragens or autozone. To press the old ball joint out and press in the new ball joint.

I can take it to the shop and get it pressed, that is no problem since my cousin is working in the morning. I just wanted the confirmation. Thank you very much!

Like I said, I need it done this weekend. And I would rather buy a nice set. I don't buy no name ebay parts either, not knocking them, just personal preference is all. The bushing are good, I already had it apart and replaced them all 2 years ago.

Don't buy those Ebay suspension parts. They suck I'm just saying this because I have tried them in the past. And there quality is just not up to par to OEM specs or other brands like Moog.

I like to use moog when it comes to standard parts since it tends to be cheaper than honda.

Moog is a Federal Mogul company and they are an OEM supplier for some car companies. They are now partners with Teikoku, who makes Honda's piston rings. Essentially you're getting OEM parts, for all practical purposes. For suspension, don't cheap out, it isn't worth the safety risk.
