Default Tranny woes. Help!

Alright..while yesterday driving, I noticed it's hard to pull it out of 5th gear...even with the clutch fully engaged.

Like, the transmission WON'T release it out of gear.

Also did it while shifting to 2nd.

So I disregard it as a fluke, and pull up to an intersection with a red light, put it in nuetral like always. When I go to put it back in 1st gear at the green....it won't go.

Won't go into ANY gear at all now! So I'm stuck in the intersection. Finally I find a friend to push me into a parking lot. After I shut it off, and restart it, it's going into gear again!

So I try to drive home, and on the way, it gets stuck in 2nd gear...won't come out of 2nd. And the clutch won't disengage anything...it won't drop the RPM when I push it in.

So I go another 4 miles in 2nd gear, and I finally have to come to a stop..can't run it this time. Car dies, of course. Try to restart it, it starts...jerks, and dies.

Sounds kinda like something is lose, and it shook the car HARD.

Fluid is fine, no leaks whatsoever. Replaced the slave cylinder today hoping it would solve it, no go.

Still won't go into any gear, and the clutch isn't engaging at all.

Any ideas as to the problem? Does it sound like an actual clutch problem? I've got a Centorforece with about 40K on it.

Sorry for the story, I wanted to be as detailed as possible.

Help! Am I going to have to yank the tranny and look at the clutch?

How old is the clutch? There could be some misalignment with your clutch/flywheel/pressure plate. Also, do you have adequate tranny fluid? Sometimes it's the simple things that cause complex problems.

Clutch has ~40K on it. Centerforce..just the base one.

Tranny fluid level is fine, and so is the clutch fluid.

Do I have to just take it apart and check it out?

It sounds as if the clutch is always on the flywheel, causing your jerks and not allowing you to shift. Check the pressure plate, clutch disk and flywheel. You'll most likely have to pull the tranny.
