TPS - Throttle positioning sensor problem.
Hey what's up guys?
Lately, I've been getting a CEL for the TPS.
Anyways, I called up a local honda dealership after testing the sensor, to see if they could sell me the sensor.
When I was talking to them, the parts manager told me that honda does NOT sell tps, because they are not removeable through honda, and he recommended buying a after-market sensor. Now, I'm not sure if he meant the TPS is not removeable from the throttle body, or they just won't do it for me. The reason why I thought this is because he offerd me a whole new throttle body, instead. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but most if not all the TPS's in honda civics, if not all honda cars are the same? Depending on the ECU i'm sure. Anyways guys, i'm sitting here at a dead end, is it really true I have to replace the whole throttle body just to replace the dang TPS? Even when it has two bolts to remove it?
Btw, my car is a 99 Civic Si if you haven't noticed that already.

Re: TPS - Throttle positioning sensor problem.
no he is wrong, the tps is held on by what appears to be rivets*, all you have to do is hit the screws with something flat or cut a line, so that you can get flat head screw driver on it.
Buy a blox one off ebay for like 20-30 bucks i think. try matching the parts number.
search for a video by, Sir Charles or doc charles, on how to install a blox TB. it will show you how to remove the tps.

Re: TPS - Throttle positioning sensor problem.
the TPS is not made to be removable for USDM engines. However it's easily removable with a screwdriver if you slot the existing screws with a dremel. (the heads are broke off like a security screw)
Most honda TPS's are the same.
One last point, 90% of TPS codes are caused by wiring issues not actual TPS issues.

Re: TPS - Throttle positioning sensor problem.
Sounds good man, thank's for the pointer. I Tried testing the TPS yesteday, and I put it on the wrong volt setting so it gave me a miss-leading voltage. Anyways, now that I do not have the equipment to test the voltage on the TPS, is there any way that I may be able to test whether or not it is bad wiring?
