Think My B18C5 Might Be Messed Up a Little - Clicking Noise, Then Shut Off - PICS!
EDIT - just kidding it's not my engine, but a customer's B16A2 that you see here. The following story was what I originally posted just to see if people would actually believe it happened, and worst of all, if I'd really think it could be "fixed."
Hey I was driving my B18C5 hatch down the road when I heard a funny clicking coming from under the hood. The engine lost power, and I pulled over, and now it won't start up.
We (some guys at the shop and I) pulled off the intake manifold and exhaust manifold and found some strange stuff - how easy of a fix is this?
Intake side:
Exhaust side:
I'm guessing I'll pull the head off today and clean out that metal stuff and hopefully just slap a new timing belt on it and hope it runs okay.
Thoughts?

Well I fugure after cleaning it all up maybe having the machine shop mill the deck and then slap it back together with a new head gasket and go for another 100,000 miles, right?

Might want to get busy with some JB weld on the 8 million fragments of piston that I see there too. Just a suggestion

Yikes! lol
Shitty, but those are some sweet *** pics!
Let's see what it looks like when you take it apart!
So did this really just happen as you were driving down the road? Or was that a joke as well? How many miles did this engine have on it?

There are plenty of pictures of the bottom end there already. Can't you see all the piston chunks and ring fragments in the intake and exhaust ports lol

Yeah I'll call you when we get the head off - we're pretty busy today at the shop, so we might not have much time to get to it today.

Re: (turtleman321)
I think you could pull it off with a new timing belt. Headgasket would be overkill.

I had the same thing happen to me four months ago, I threw a valve and that's what was left of it. The motor was never the same again. A clear sign on it was that I burnt out my third cylinder housing, it was completely pitch black, the spark plug and everything...completely destroyed. I don't know what to tell you though, that was a SOHC, it cost $400 and a Type-Hard is worth much more. Good luck
On a side note you could get a SOHC (if you need to replace the motor) and boost it

Okay so I thought I'd play a little H-T joke. The engine is actually a B16A2 from an 00 Civic Si coupe, and it's a customer's car, not mine.
My car was driven today for the first time in a few weeks and it is just fine.
So anyways did anyone notice a few things in my pics?
1. Upside down valve smashed back into the head
2. The oiler piston ring in the intake port
3. A perfect hole where a valvestem smashed through the exhaust port
4. Cylinder wall linings in the intake ports
We also found a freaking valvestem in the cat convertor too! WTF?
Total carnage. I'm hoping they let us yank the head off for ***** and giggles. I'll be sure to take detailed pics if they give us the go ahead. I told them we'd do it free of charge.
