Default Talk some sense to a noob

Hey all, I'm looking at a couple of "modded" civics on craigslist and would like some insight from you guys. Now, I'm in college so my main concern is reliability. I want something that gets decent fuel economy and is also fun to drive and look at. I have absolutely no experience with doing work on cars except for changing the oil. If I have a problem with a car, I usually just drive it to the shop and forget about it. Are modded cars right for me?

I am looking at these two:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...044534899.html

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hn...111610782.html

I'm favoring the first one since it looks to have been modified very nicely and the owner sounds like he knows what he's doing. I want to set up a test drive so what should I focus on when I look at it and drive it? Are modded cars reliable in the long run? I plan on getting one and keeping it for a while.

I would appreciate any wisdom and advice you guys can give me. Tell it like it is. Thanks
