Symptoms of a bad shiftfork??

Just curious guys...I did a search and could not find much info on symptoms of a bad shift fork. I heard there are many symptoms...can you guys list some?

when my shift fork went bad i couldnt put it in or pull it out of gear it was stuck in 2nd

Was this the case while the car was on and off?

Also..are there any other symptoms out there?
