Default Swapping B18c1 into 98 Civic EX 4door.

Okay, so I blown my head gasket on my y8 and my friend wanted to get rid of his 95 Civic hatch with a B18c1 + P28 ecu and other stuff. However, the left side was hit and while it drives fine the frame is bent in. I am planning to swap the B18c1 into my 4 door and I am gathering information. I have searched but I only have been getting bits and pieces of information which is making me unsure whether or not it's correct.

So stuff I will need in order to swap the B18c1 with P28 ecu over to my 4 door.

-Rear Transmission bracket.
-OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness.
-B series axles

Then everything should be direct drop in from there? Also if I want to run A/C, will my A/C for the single cam work?

*Updated*
-Rear "T" bracket from 99-00 Si
-Driver side timing block mount from 99-00 Si
-Obtained a 98 P72 GSR ECU
-B Series Axles w/ ABS rings
-For A/C -----> Delsol Vtec P54 bracket or 97-2001 CR-V P7J bracket.

What else? I finally got the motor in, I plugged up everything except this square plug that goes on the injector part of the harness which plugs up to this sensor with vaccuum lines on my Y8 intake manifold. The car runs fine now with a CEL. Please help!

Initial pics of the swap, will update soon.

from the 99-00 si you will need the rear "T" bracket and the driver side timing belt block mount. To use the p28 you need an obd 2a- obd 1 jumper harness.

and to keep your AC you need a dohc vtec delsol bracket P30 i believe or a crv one p54?
it will mount your ac compressor to the gsr block and retain all your original ac components.

Very well put! My question is are you going to keep your power steering? I know that there is a way to make your d series pump work but you need a bracket from another car I apologize I dont remember from what car maybe JDMGLENN could clarify!

Okay I updated the thread and listed all the things mentioned above plus more. So I'm guessing I'll be better off with the CR-V bracket than trying to find a Del Sol Vtec one? Also I thought the power steering pump is mounted on the engine where the belt runs, correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay I went to dealer today and asked for pricing of the brackets. I only managed to find the "T" bracket and the person had no idea what that driverside timing belt block bracket mount is. Is there a part number or anything you guys can give me?

Alrighty thanks I got it, and another question since I am currently out of funds to buy a harness to use my P28. Can I run my 98' EX ecu on the B18c1?

if you are putting a gsr in, then the 99-00 rear t bracket is not gonna work for you, you need the gsr one,, for AC,, you need either the P54 from the del sol or the crv ac bracket. oh, you will get a cel for your car unless that gsr is from a obd2 donor.

All 96-00 Civic EK chassis with B series will use the 99-00 SI rear T bracket. The GSR/ integra bracket is for EG / DC2 chassis.

And he is jumping to obd1, what makes you think would he get a CEL???

another thing i could suggest is getting a different intake manifold than the stock GSR "snail" one. it will free up alot of space and be much easier to work with in your EK. i think if u use the GSR manifold, your throttle cable will not clear your hood? i dont remember. plus the stock GSR one just looks ugly lol.

other brackets you will need are a front transmission mount bracket (the one that connects to the torque mount). not necessary to complete the swap though.

*4 doors FTW.

your engine would run,but you would get a cel unless you have a obd2 gsr with the crank sensor... and you wont be able to redline at 8200 you would only be able to get to 7200 rpm max.. Im 99% sure that i didnt mislead you here.

Okay, I finally managed to take out the single cam out my 4 door. I am never removing another Honda engine from under the car ever again. (Took advice from my friend that only owned Toyotas. Cherry picker ftw!) Anyways, I also bought a 98 P72 GSR ecu and it plugged up fine, the only problem that I can see now is whether my OBD2a engine harness will plug up to the B18c1. I checked the stamp on the head and it says 9|9 so I'm assuming that it is a OBD2b, but I found other people that says that OBD2a is from 96-99 or 96-98. I just want to make sure if it will plug up.

To summarize:
-Installed 98 P72 GSR ECU
-Removed my single cam from 4 door.
-B18c1 head stamp says 9|9 on so it's OBD2b?
-Will my OBD2a engine harness plug up to it?

Updated the top part of the thread for easier viewing.

why? cause 3 hours of work is too much to take an engine out?

Okay maybe I should have added that this is my first time doing a swap. And my friend recommended me to take out the motor from under instead of using a cherry picker.

kind of depends on what they used for a harness in the 95 if they converted the plugs for dizzy -alt-injectors to obd1 or left them as obd2 and used a obd2 to obd1 jumper
plus eg has two piece harness like the teg and ek has 1 piece so you will have to mod your harness to make it work good luck

your stock EX harness WILL WORK FINE on the motor. you will have to extend a couple plugs (Crank Position Sensor) and maybe the Intake Air Temp. That's it. or you can just Bypass the Crank Position Sensor, up to you. Integras ended obd2a in 1999. began obd2-b in 2000. and it Doesn't matter what year the head is. even a 1989 B-series VTEC head will work as long as your plugs work for whichever OBD you run.

Okay I will post pics, but I just found out the B18c1 is converted to OBD1 and that the axles are not ABS, I am going junkyard 2m pic up some ABS B series axles, and perhaps pick up on some old OBD2 parts to get it rolling first? I want to do everything legit to the year. What parts would I need? Also the radiator hoses are swelling, I can use any B series hoses right?

I pulled the engine out today, I'll take pics of it 2m. Don't hate me for just using that simple toolkit to do the work. =[

Okay, I hooked everything up and everything plugs up except for this square plug to the injector harness. Now the engine turns on. Idles at 1.5k just like when it's cold and it starts bogging sounding like it's misfiring then it automatically shuts off. Afterwards, I turn it back on then it only idles for 1-2 seconds then quickly shuts off. Also, check engine light is on and that my header doesn't really connect to my cat, there is a half cm gap. What would my problem be?

I totally forgot to take pics and I've been spending all my time and nooby effort into this. Will definitely remember to bring my camera, sucks not to have a garage, but to use cousin's place. =/ Someone please help me!
