Default speedometer going crazy

my speedometer will sometimes read the correct mph, sometimes go all crazy, and sometimes just stay on "0." any ideas on what i need to look for?

The VSS is typically the culprit. Try replacing it with a known working unit.

When my alternator was going out it did this as well, i would test voltage at the battery when the car is running if it's at 14+ then there's a good chance that it's the VSS.

i have a jdm b16a swap, do i buy a speed sensor for a 99-00 Si or do i stay with a 95 Si speed sensor?

If you don't have a CEL code, then the speedo is more likely to be the problem.

replaced the speed sensor and my speedometer is working properly. went to oreilly's. $95 with a lifetime warranty
