Everything will work fine, no need to worry about the EGR, you don't have to swap manifolds because the EGR is closed until it gets triggered by the EGR control solenoid, which he doesn't have anyways. You can wire in both the solenoids to the actual vtec wire and ground the vtec oil pressure wire. DONE!

I have a 2000 EX I am working on now, and can tell you that this will not work correctly with a P2P ecu. It will run in 12 valve mode til 5800 rpms and then switch to 16 valve vtec mode quite abruptly. It will run fine like that except for the fact that the engine is gutless from idle to 5800 rpms. I am thinking that you could run the 16 valve nonvtec stage from idle since the P2P ecu is set up to be running in 16 valve nonvtec mode from idle to 5800 rpms anyway. To do this you would have to jump a wire off of something that gets 12v once the key is on only. I ran it this way today and it seemed to work fine other than a loud clicking noise sometimes upon startup.

Loud clicking noise are the solenoids.

Louder than the noise you get from the solenoids…more like something involved with the cam profile switch from 12 valve to 16 valve.

my setup has the p2p ecu... obd2a which the d15b is. before hookin up the v-con I had no power till 5800 rpm, (both solenoids connected to same vtech lead from harness) I put on the v con and set my first solenoid at 3k and left the other solenoid connected to the harness vtech wire. My car has 128 whp @6200 rpm and gets 46 mpg! and its an auto trans! did I mention its also a 4 dr sedan? If you want power go with a b series DOHC! If you want eco, go with the d15b and set up like I just told you!

Because you aren't running lean mode properly you are only getting 46 MPG when you should be closer to 55 MPG. I can get 44 MPG out of my stock D15B7 which doesn't have any kind of vtec.

If you use Hondata S300 you can run both vtec and vtec-e properly based on engine load and engine speed. Doing it purely on rpm isn't the most efficient.

You're absolutely right, but I have a total of $600 into this setup. and it does a pretty da** good job IMO. Excellent daily driver. I also just recently picked up another 96 ex sedan, want to go with the y8 that it came with but I may just put in another d15b... I've gotten 220k out of the one I have. and still goin strong.

Are you talking about the Buddy Club VTEC controller? I was wondering if that would work setup as you said. How long have you been running the setup? Thanks!

I've been running it for a while now, dont know exactly when I put it on, but it was a month after I dropped in the d15b. At first I couldn't get it runnin right and my buddy out in cali told me about the v tech controller.... I got it thru him (at that time it was $130) I've been runnin it since. my car has only had 1 single problem since I put it on, that was a corroded ground on the pass. side strut tower stopping the starter from workin right. but the car has a total of 540k miles, the engine has 262k on it (42k when I bought it) and its runnin strong and getting 46 mpg with an auto trans.
no leaks or anything. just an all around great motor. (for eco that is) very very dependable daily driver.

Can you send me a pm of how you set it up, or just post it here. I am doing what you did with the 2nd stage solenoid (16 valve VTEC) by hooking it up to the harness. I was wondering how you wired up the first stage crossover from the vcon to the solenoid. I am pretty sure I could figure it out, but since you have done it before it makes sense to see what you did. Thanks!

I actually had jdm d15b motor with y8 head and I put dual solenoids and used a p28 ecu with jumper harness Obd2 and had no issues

That is not the same thing as running the D15B 3 stage head.

Please don't bump an old thread with confusing information. Many who will find this will not know all the details or specifications to realize your setup is no where near a D15B 3 stage motor setup. Regardless if you make the D16Y8 head look like the 3 stage, it's not a 3 stage.

Thread closed to prevent necessary bumps.
