Default sohc head removal question

I have worked on dohc vtec motors but not sohc motors. im replacing the head gasket on my sisters car, and is it really necessary to remove the cam, dist and the rocker arm assembly to remove the cylinder head?, or can i just remove the head bolts and pull the head off? thanks

Yeah, just remove the head bolts and the intake manifold bolts. It will come off the block easy as pie. However you may need to use a torque bar for leverage if the head was too tight, but that shouldn't be an issue.
