Smell coming from air vents
I've got this strange smell coming from my vents almost like burning clutch, but the thing is my clutch is fine. When I pop the hood it smells normal. The smell is only coming from the vents. Kind of smells like burning ants or spiders (I was a sadistic kid). Anyways, it only happens when the vents are on "fresh air mode" hot or cold. No smells coming from under the hood. Cant figure out what it is. Can anyone help?

Sometimes, when I rev the engine, some weird smell will come in but after a quick second or two, the smell is gone. It doesn't happen everyday. Just once in a blue moon thing. Car has regularly maintenance, I can figure it out as well.

There is somewhere around the cowl you can spray some lysol cleaner and run it through the ventilation system.
Somebody else will have to chip in with more information on this. I've never done it.

Well the air intake for most hondas is on the passenger side of the cowl because the Blower Motor installs in behind the Glove Box.
If you were to take off the Cowl cover and spray Lysol down there it would come out in the Vents

I've done this for the musty smell I would get in my VW, and it worked. I don't know where to spray in a honda though, so free bump for you.

Sounds interesting. would also like to know where this cowl is at. AC got cut off 2 years ago and when I use my heater in the winter and it does smell a bit funky. Also does anyone know why I get hot air blowing into the car from under the dash even with the heater/ac off??

If you have the little temperature selector pressed over to the hot side, I think that's pretty common, even with the fan turned off. Every car I've ever driven have a small amount of air that comes in reguardless of the fan being on or off.

if you have the selector to 'fresh' air, then you'll always have a breeze coming through the vents, if you turn it to 'recirculated' air, no more breeze...took me a second to figure that out too heheh

I got that selected to recirculated, maybe some hole in the fire wall or bad seal where the wire/hoses enter the car? my wife's car does this too, even with the AC on, selected to recirculate air, and ac button depressed, and temp setting to full cold air.

Maybe the air valve under the driver's side dash is stuck open. I've seen the little levers pop off and on one car there was a My Little Pony hair brush blocking open the plastic flap. Neither car was a honda though.
The cowl is the plastic vents at the base of your windshield. Right where your wipers are bolted down.
