Shudder and 5th gear question
Hello I am new here (please forgive my ignorance of these cars I am more of a Supra person) and am looking at a Del Sol that has a B16 VT motor swap with Turbo, lowered as well. Want a daily driver that is a little better on gas but still fun.
It ran well but has a slight to sometimes moderate "shudder" when accelerating from cruising in 5th. More pronounced the more power was applied. Gears shifted smoothly (short shifter). Shudder was less pronounced in lower gears and appeared to be somewhat speed related and seemed to go away when just coasting.
Any idea if this is driveshaft or tranny related? I know it is impossible to diagnose exactly from words but would be good to know going in on a vehicle and what to expect if repair is needed.
Also is it possible to get a different 5th gear so that the car would not be pulling as many RPM's in hope of saving a little more fuel? I think that this was set up for off the line and not for cruising which is what I want for a DD.
Thanks in advance and lots of good info here!

Re: Shudder and 5th gear question (Wannadelsol)
i assume you are referring to a manual tranny, the shudder can be clutch slippage, or due to a bad swap/clutch combo, i think its the springs that absorb rotational force, they could be bad, broken, or their spring rate could be too low for the increased power. but you also sound like this is felt when the clutch is let all of the way out, so it shouldnt happen, but then again, maybe the clutch isnt going all of the way out. other than that, motor mounts?

Re: Shudder and 5th gear question (fastrc2)
Yes it is a manual, and yes the shudder is felt when the cluch has already been let out and just applying power from coasting in 5th.
I thought about motor mounts as well, but as I said I am not familiar with these cars (yet).
Don't mind taking on some repairs as the interior and body on this 95 are in excellent shape...
