Do a leakdown. That'll tell you if it's your rings or your headgasket.

Seafoam eats away at ****, especially gaskets, so if you use too much of it you'll run into problems. Or I suppose you'll run into problems also if the gaskets are too old 'n ****.

do the compression and leakdown test. more than likely its a combination of a whack of things, leading to a fucked motor.

its nowhere near as smooth as it was revving before..... im not sure how to descibe it but my exhaust tone sounds more like valves clattering than exhaust.

What information did you use to arrive at this conclusion?

You are supposed to change it after... if you read the original write up about seafoam he tells you to change it because seafoam breaks down the viscosity of oil. He also says that if your leaks are held up by carbon deposits that you can expect to see/hear leaks after you seafoam. He also says that Auto-Rx is good for the trans.

personal experience. I was lucky enough where nothing "bad" happened but still I gained no benefit from using it except pissing off a park ranger from the smoke

There were too many occurances where something goes wrong using seafoam. When I did it, I did not gain any better gas mileage, idled the exact same, head looked the same. It pretty much did nothing for me so I'm not gonna bother using it again because like Tom (B18C5EH2) said theres no need to be putting additives into engines. If somethings wrong with your engine, do a rebuild.

Fair enough, though a quick search over on the BITOG forums will turn up an abundance of discussions confirming the effectiveness of Seafoam when used properly.

its a very wonderful thing when NOT used in the engine crankcase. I use a little bit of seafoam on a tooth brush to clean out my IM ports and throttle body. I also soak my o2 sensors in that stuff, and soak other dirty carbon filled parts in it. And for a fuel injector/fuel pump cleaner, it works well.

However the stuff is still liquid, and doesnt explode like fuel, so putting it inside the engine is like semi-hydrolocking the engine.

Alot of people use the placeabo effect when they have that can tilted', thinking that green stuff is like feeding poppie his spinach...its more like feeding a stripper some coke.
