Default Update: Running hot at idle

I just bleed the system, I ran it for like 20-25 mins, the temp stayed 1/2 way up the whole time, but towards the end it started to bubble coolant out of the neck, so I shut it off. The fan did kick on pretty late in the process. I then checked the coolant level and had to add quite a bit to get it back up.

Question is it normal to bubble out coolant?

[/I]COLOR]I have a 96 civic, when I drive for say half hour and park it and let it sit running, the temp guage will go to about 3/4 up (not into red) and then finally the fan will kick on and start to cool down.

Seems like the fan is coming late.

I know the fan is working because I can hear after I turn the key to position 2 and hear it.

I am wondering can it be the thermo switch on the thermo housing? but is that is the case would it just fail and not work at all?

Is there a way to test the switch with an ohm meter?

Any ideas?

Start by topping off coolant in the cooling system and then bleeding the system.

-------------------
Bleeding the cooling system may take 20-30 minutes:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push/turn the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat. Fan need not be on.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

Ron I was thinking that, the other day I topped it off, did not bleed yet.

I did have a new radiator put in a few months ago and he flushed the system, I saw him use a special funnel and let run for like a long time and coolant was slowly going in, I assume he tried to get all the air out, but maybe some is still in there?

Flushing is different than bleeding. Try bleeding.

Is there a sign when it is done, say no bubbling, besides waiting up to 30 mins?
