Default question regarding thermostat

Well I am already fairly certain that I need a new thermostat. So I'm just wondering if this could also cause another issue.

When it's exceptionally cold out it takes my car FOREVER to warm up, and even then once I hit about 50mph the temp gauge goes right back down and the motor cools and stays below optimal operating temp.

Could a bad thermostat cause that?

Definitely. They're cheap and easy to install and I'm pretty sure that's your problem.

Ok thanks. I know how easy it is, and pretty cheap, just wondering if that's my issue.

I also have no heat so I'm pretty sure that I need a new thermostat.

You almost certainly need a new thermostat. Remember to bleed the air out of the system as well.

X2, and remember to put the little bleed hole that's on the actual T-Stat at the 12 O' Clock position when you install it.

more specifically, a t-stat stuck open would cause that. if it were failed in the closed position you would be overheating with a quickness.

replace it with an OEM honda piece and you will be all set

I'm having the same issue but already have replaced the T-stat with a new OEM unit as well as the radiator, fan and all hoses!! My car barely heats up to about 1/4 of the gauge and when I coast down a hill it goes back to cold!

did you have normal heat before? did your gauge stay around 1/2 way when warm?
