Default Power window malfunction. Please help.

For some reason when I roll my driver side window down it pops out of track and won't roll up all the way. It has happened before and I have fixed it with no problem but why does it pop out of place in the first place. By popping out of track I mean... there's a certain "track" (the black rubber lining) that the window is suppose to be in, but it pops out of track when I roll the window down and when I roll it up, it can only roll up half way. The only way to fix it is to unscrew the two bolts (behind the door panel) that secure the window and slide the window back in to place manually and screw the two bolts back in. Is there a reason why it pops out of it's track? How can I fix/prevent this from happening again?

it's called the window regulator...

if it happens again, take a look inside the door panel and see if the bolts holding the window track are still intact, and tightened. otherwise, it might be a bent regulator, or some nylon bushing is worn, maybe?

The bolts holding the window are still intact and tight. The window struggles when going down, I tried putting some WD-40 along the nylon but that doesn't seem to help either.

not the bolts holding the window to the regulator.. i'm refering to the bolts holding the window tracks (the ones at the front and rear of the door that holds the rubber moulding.) to the door itself. if they are loose or missing, the window tracks can move causing the window to run/jump off the tracks.

and i usually won't use wd-40 as a lubricant. they tend to dry up and become useless. i usually use a silicone paste on anything rubber and plastic. thick, water resistant, good lube, and doesn't dry up.

if those all look good, you might have to take some parts out and visually look at them and see if anything's bent, or binding

edit:

#1 & 3 is the regulator that holds the window. the bolts you're refering to is #18

the bolts i'm refering to is #19 and 22

or, either #7/12, or 6/11 is bent, or the regulator itself is bent.

Thanks for the diagram. Helps a lot. I'll take a look and see what I can come up with.

alright, check this out.

i'm at work (at toyota) and i get this civic hx to do a safety inspection for it to sell for a used car... i think they bought it at an auction...
anyways, the driver's window binds when i lower the window, then it doesn't raise all the way up. the front of the window came off the tracks.

i removed the window and tried to reinstall it. after it's reinstalled, the window does not move up and down easily. i remove the window again. then roll the regulator up and down w/o the window. i can see the regulator binding in certain areas where rust had built up due to a very dry regulator. they usually have grease on them to lube and prevent this from happening.

i'm still waiting for the ok to replace the regulator and motor, as well as other stuff on the car.

i thought i'd share this w/ you since this kinda applies to you.

That sounds exactly like my problem. When I roll the window up, the front of the window would pop out of its track. I fix it by just putting the window back on track and thats all I can really do. It hasn't fell off track YET so I'm gonna wait til it does. I think my problem is the same as the one your fixing. How much would it cost for a new regulator and motor?

i really can't say for sure what prices will be... our pricing will be different than retail. it's probably going to be about $45-$50 range.
as far as the motor, you don't want to know. the only reason i requested the price and avail of the pw motor was only because i did not remove the motor from the regulator. pricing the motor was just in case i also find the motor to be bad after removing the regulator from the motor.

Well, I finally got off my *** and stopped being lazy. Went and bought some silicone spray for the windows and it seemed to fix the problem. Now I can stop pulling my window down.
