Passing emissions
heres the deal i live in VA and i need to pass emissions. problem i have a obd1 ls swap. everything on my car is obd2 till the ecu where i used a jumper harness to make it an obd1. My question is can i use a 98 civic lx ecu for like 1 hour for the test then swap back the ecu? will the car run with out throwing a code? can anyone from VA tell me what the process in the VA emmisions test and if they do a tail pipe test?

yeah but i heard that they send the info straight to richmond and the mechanic can not make it pass. like they did back in the day. unless i am wrong because i know him personally he has been doing my inspections for years but says that the emissions test are getting harder to pass because he can just say that it passed. i also know that i will not pass (test pipe.)

Re: Passing emissions (highrev98civic)
I agree, back when I lived in Hawaii, it was hard to find a place that would pass you without just paying the guy a little extra. I did manage to find a few places that would just look at it, but it's all about the people you know. Ask around at a cruise night or something, you might be able to find someone who will take care of you.
Another option would be to know someone in a state like Oklahoma where there is no safety inspection at all (or front license plate for that matter) and register your car in that state. Just use their address and have them renew it for you every year.

Re: Passing emissions (95sloweg)
THE CIVIC ECU WILL WORK BUT YOU STILL WONT PASS THE SMOG IF YOU HAVE NO CATYLIC CONVERTER, SO YEAH...ID JUST PAY, $100 IS MORE THAN GOOD. IM IN CALI IVE PAID UP TO $200.
