Overheating only when A/C is running?!?!?

Overheating only when A/C is running?!?!?
So, I've changed my thermostat, and my car no longer overheats when running without A/C. When I run it (the A/C), it starts to get hot so I turn it off and turn the heater on and the temp. goes back down but still tries to get hot. It does not do this unless I run my A/C. My radiator is 240,000 miles old, I have a water pump and timing belt kit that I need to put in it as well, but I just want some opinions on why this is happening?! radiator clogged? water pump going out?! it is not the headgasket i don't think because my car runs normally, no smoke from exhaust and no milky oil/coolant. Car is a 1997 Civic LX. D16y7 Only mods to engine is a CAI. Also If I'm running the A/C while driving at freeway speeds, the car doesn't start to get hot until I slow down to street driving or idle. What's the deal?!

Well.. when you run the AC you lose a LITTLE bit of power to circulate coolant, but not enough to not stop the coolant flow..
or..
i think your radiator might be the problem, b/c my radiator was dead at 78xxx miles on me.

Why all bold text?
I would first try bleeding the cooling system. As mentioned, does the radiator fan run when the engine is hot and does condenser fan run whenever the A/C is on?
Also, are the radiator and condenser clogged with bugs and debris? If so, use your garden hose and nozzle to unclog the fins.
----------------------
The bleed procedure may take 20-30 minutes:
1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.
2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.
3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

What about the two fans? Did you follow the bleed procedure described in the service manual? If not, you still may have air trapped in the system.

Your condenser is in front of your radiator and releases heat which the refrigerant in the cooling system absorbs from the cabin. If the radiator is going for a **** then it might not be able to handle the extra load placed on it by the heat radiating out from the condenser. Visually inspect your radiator and if all seems good, as RonJ said check to see if your cooling system is bled and that both fans are coming on when you turn your A/C on. The condenser fan will be on on the LEFT/DRIVER side and the radiator fan will be on the RIGHT/PASSENGER side.
Regardless of engine temp or if the engine is on or off, both fans should come on whenever your A/C system is turned on and also when the compressor cycles. If not, you need to troubleshoot the fan circuit up to and including the A/C system.

Funny, HondaGuy951 gets all impatient when no one responds to his issue the first 20 minutes after his post, then when people actually offer him solutions by the next day, he makes excuses for not trying them.
Wonder if he ever got his problem fixed? Having the same issue myself — but I will try the solutions posed here.

Yes, I'm a n00b, but this old thread happens to describe the problem my car is having. Is there a newer post that addresses the same issue? If so, please direct!
