Don't forget to keep your air filter in check too. If those bastards get dirty enough they'll start to let a lot of dirt into the engine. Are you sure you always get all the oil drained out of the engine? If it gets dirty immediately after you start it up, that could very well be the case. Also: does the engine take the same amount of oil as the specs say? If it takes less (i.e. it takes 3.5 quarts to bring the dipstick to full, but specs say the capacity is 4 quarts), you probably have some sludge built up in there, and it gets stirred up whenever you change the oil.
