Default Oil change capacity '97 HX

Huh?

'97 HX, 5-spd., 1.6 liters.

I did my first oil change on this car today. I put in only 3 qt. 12 oz., which is 3-3/8 qt.
Then when I took it for a spin and checked the oil afterwards, it was about a quarter inch above the upper limit mark.

I did a pretty good job draining it but if capacity is as the book says, there must have been a half quart still in the engine after I drained it! Yes, I did change the oil filter.

Owner's manual says the capacity is 3.8 or 3.9 qt, I don't recall exactly. Also it seems (from about 6 weeks of ownership and way too many topoffs during that time to keep the oil level up) - it seems that there is only 1/2 quart difference between the upper and lower limit marks on the stick.

Am I the only one seeing this? Everybody else putting in 4 qt. and no problems? Everybody else see 1 qt between limit marks on the dipstick, where I only have about 1/2 qt. difference?? Maybe some tech swapped in a different dipstick??

putting in 4 may not pose a problem, but there is always a possibility. (i always put 4 in. only because my old z6 habitually burned oil.)

Sorry to bring this back up, but I also just bought a 97 HX and filled it with 4 qts thinking that would be sufficient. The dip stick read 1/2 quart too high. Drained it out and it looks good. It's confusing because the manual does say 3.8qts with filter.

Thanks, p nut.
Good to see another HX driver seeing what I'm seeing.

Also pay attention to how long it sits before you check it. Mine goes up about 3/16 inch if I let it set a couple hours to let the filter oil and all the rest, fully drain down into the pan.

Now, how about the dipstick marks??
My marks definitely seem to be 1/2 liter apart. NOT a quart.
In other words, if the oil is at the bottom mark and I add 1/2 quart or 1/2 liter, it ends up at the top mark once I let all the oil drain down fully.

To all you HX guys, I have an oem primary o2 sensor (it's a stock wideband), brand new in box, if anybody wants to buy it. I sold my HX and never installed it.
