oem radio question
will a 99-00 oem radio fit my 98 ex? i'm not just referring to the dash fitment, but is it even able to play? i'm not very electronically inclined, but would rather rather that than the kenwood unit that is fugly.
quote from the ad:
"this unit will come with the original card and code"
I know what the code is, but what's the card?

Re: oem radio question
I'm pretty sure the harness is the same. Unless it was cut out in order to wire the kenwood harness. The code is on that card. It's for anti-theft, without it you can't use the radio.
*EDIT* Take it to the Audio section if all else fails.

The card is just that. a business card that has the radio code on it. Its usually stuffed in with the owners manual in the glove box.

Re: oem radio question
In the 96-98 dash, the fitment will be so OEM you won't know what hit you. But, beware...if you ever plan on changing your dash lighting to amber (uber jdm), the radio will be a bitch. The Si's and other oem radios come in amber and look very sexy. Here's one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA...item4839f4f8e2. You can see on it's details that many Honda radios can mix and match. But yeah, you may end up having to buy a new radio harness, but that should be pretty cheap. I'm planning on ditching my Sony this summer for that bad boy...so don't buy em all!

Re: oem radio question
I'm not looking to make it uber jdm. 110 is more than I'd want to spend, but thanks for the pics. I'm glad to see it fits flush.

To put a '99-'00 Civic radio into a '96-'98 Civic you need to get a harness that goes from the '96-'98 dash harness to the '99-'00 plug for the radio. It's pretty easy to just make one out of two harnesses if you have them.
The '99-'00 radio face is a 1.25 DIN while the '96-'98 is a 1 DIN. You can put the radio down in the lower cubby hole above the cup holders, but it won't fit in the dash spot nearly as cleanly. In the lower cubby it still won't fit perfectly.
Portflow's radio is not a '99-'00 radio. The '96-'98 radio has an angled left side while the '99-'00 one is straight up and down on both sides.

Re: oem radio question
The block off plate is from Honda. There's also one that says "HONDA" on it.
Notice that Portflow has the cubby up top and I have the clock. If you have the clock, it fits recessed. If you have the cubby, it fits flush with the climate control bezel.
So your decision on which radio to use could depend on if you use the EX cubby, the CX cubby )which does not have the flat piece that fits under the stock radio, like the EX one has) or the clock or some gauge there.
I still have the '99-'00 radio mounted below.
