Shift linkage seal on 97 civic dx y7.
I recently replaced the shift linkage seal on the shift input shaft on my tranny and after about a month i got under there to change the oil and noticed it was leaking again. I got the new seal from honda and installed it correctly. Any one know why it would still be leaking?? Is it suppost to let a little by? Or time for new shift linkage?? Thanks in advance for the help!!

You may have damaged the new seal during installation. For example if the shaft is rough where the pin goes through. Did you do it from outside with transmission on the car or did you take the transmission apart so you can pull the shaft out of the inside? I think the latter method is recommended.

No i did it with the transmission on the car. I didnt even think to check the shaft for ruff spots before i installed it. I can always purchase another one and replace it and see if it does it again. There fairly in expensive and its not hard to do. I used a 15mm socket to install it and tap it in lightly. The seal didnt leak for a good month or so. I checked it 2 weeks on a row after install and it was not leaking. If there is burs on the shaft do i just get fine sand paper and smooth it out?
