I would look into this ASAP,if you got pulled over and they ran your engine serial number and it came back stolen You'd get a VIP ride in a new crown vic,Posession of stolen property under $5000 in Canada gets you about a week in jail but i know the states aren't so forgiving

i dunno how your(American) insurance works but here you can look through your insurance company at the vehicle/motor history.People run the VIN number here on swapped motors often for fear of what you speak of(stolen motor)

jack up the car.. the vin plate on the tranny is at the front bottom.. the vin plate for the block is in the rear near the halfshaft..

He lives in NJ, obviously you don't know your areas too well.
You have any idea how many salvage theft recoveries I've seen (including my own) from NJ?
It's most likely stolen, don't bother looking into it.
It's not California, it's not Canada, in NJ they do NOT have the right to check your engine's VIN on a routine traffic stop, and they won't either at any inspection.
I mean damn, the whole state is based on drugs, pollution, and theft, and you're wondering if it's stolen...

True enough. Though there's really no chance of him getting caught, if he doesn't do a carfax and look into the VIN then he wouldn't know he had stolen property, but if he looks into it and finds out he does he has to give it back, or report it or something because he knowingly has it.
In NJ they can't randomly check VIN's - so he's in the clear. It's best to know the **** stinks and leave it in the can then to open it up and hope it airs out.

Re: (Syndacate)
I agree but for the 1% of time you do get pull over and questioned(common on the westcoast)with done out/souped up vehicles it would be good to as least know. Then he could either keep his mouth shut and drive or ask for his money back........
