Nagging idle problem and trouble starting
I have a 1997 civic hatchback CX, standard transmission, no ps or AC, 1.6 L na engine, all is stock, no mods. It sometimes idles too high (I can't say exactly, but I think in the range of 2-3 k). This first happened in 7/2012, and didn't happen again for a year. Since then it happened about half a dozen times, and it seems to happen when I take it in and out of gear repeatedly (like when I'm stuck in traffic). I've been very sick and have not been able to look into this further.
This summer, it experienced the idle race, and then had trouble starting (I stopped at a gas station) halfway through a 10 hour drive. It wouldn't start, then started and died, then finally started and ran. More recently it did this once or twice (this month sometime), then this week had some trouble starting. Today it would not start.
It cranks fine, and sometimes fires a few times, but won't "catch". It did the same thing yesterday but started in the end (twice). It runs fine when it's going. It was very cold this week. I suspect these problems are related, but I could be wrong.

Re: Nagging idle problem and trouble starting
Update:
I got it to start (with effort). I found that it starts much more easily when hot, but dies immediately unless I give it gas, a few seconds of revving the engine then it runs fine. When I started it cold, it took a long time for the idle to settle down (30 seconds?)
