Hey there guys I'm pretty new to the forum and new to the Honda world as well. Please excuse my stupid question but I'm just curious as to what are the different reasons for the maintenance required light being lit up on my 97 Hx. I know its for you to do scheduled maintenance every so many miles but I have no idea what sort of things the cars require every 50,000 100,000 and so on. the only other vehicles I've worked on were so old the only lights on the dash were the blinkers. lol

could it simply be it telling me time for an oil change because when I bought the car a few months ago I had no idea how long the oil had been in it so i changed it the day I got it.

or could it be telling me to change the timing belt or something serious like that?

The Owner's manual indicates oil changes every 7.5K miles, so that's what the maintenance reminder tells you.
