Loss of power at low RPM, random miss 97 civic ex
Hi, I'm Travis. I have a 1997 Civic EX, aftermarket engine accessories include a DC SPORTS header, AEM fuel rail, and AEM air intake. I bought the car with a burnt up wiring harness and all the performance stuff was already on it. The car runs with a miss all the time at all speeds, though most noticeable at lower speeds (35-). I've noticed lately that when in gear, if I hit the gas the car immediately misses and bucks, then accelerates normally. I'm tearing my clutch up taking off in this thing. It also seems to lack power at low RPM (under 3000) anything after 3000 RPMs, the car runs beautifully, aside from a miss every now and then at higher RPM. Interesting side note here: when I first started the car after replacing the harness, it had this miss and has ever since. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. However the dist cap was only held on by 2 of the 3 required screws, leaving a gap between the cap and dist. So the rotor button was completely gone, there was corrosion all over the inside of the cap. Since I replaced the cap and rotorm it is still hesitating and missing. I have taken off the cap and there is no carbon tracking on the inside, so I am led to assume that my coil is bad, but this would just be a guess. CEL is on, but i havent pulled a code, if i need to, let me know. I'm just getting into the serious honda thing, so im new at this, but i am a service writer for ford, so i know my way around a motor, as well as some diag stuff, but this has got me stumped.

Yes, def. check the CEL you can do it yourself with instructions on this site. If the CEL is unrelated to a misfire, coil is my guess too

coil is inside the distributor cap, the black piece with the spring coming out of it, closest to the radiator.
doesnt the 97 civic have an obd2 system on it? if so, can i still jump that and get a code? i know there is a green clip and connector in the passenger kick panel, im kinda familiar with the wiring in this thing.
