Default left turn signal blinking really fast, but both work

left turn signal blinking really fast, but both work

on my friend's civic, i thought normally this meant that one of the bulbs was out, but they both (front and back) blink really fast,

this only happens on the left side, not the right

any thoughts?

check all the bulbs thoroughly. usually it does mean that a bulb is out

Check the greenwire connected to the the front turn signals, make sure their connected all the way. This problem won't be caused by a bad bulb. Also, check the rear turn signals, although I'm not sure which wire it is.

This happened to me, and it was because my driver side greenwire was connected all the way. Just push them in a little bit and see if that works.

I had the same exact problem, it was a grounding issues, I ran a wire right to the chassis and fixed it.

It could be a grounding issue. This is the way I think of it..

If the turn signals blink at normal speed, they are both getting the same amount of power.

If one is blinking faster then the other, 1 is getting more power than the other. Usually it means one isn't working, or isn't connected properly. Check the connections.

just because you physically inspected the bulbs, doesnt mean they are fine. i've had to do diagnostics where a filament was broken in the bulb and you could only see when you flicked the bulb. i would replace the bulbs for peace of mind before i did any other testing.

I'm almost positive that a bad bulb cannot cause this, and that it's the connector, not the bulb.

it sounds like it may be the connection because both (front and rear) on the left side work and flash at the same time, also it periodically works normally then goes back to the blinking....

would it be the wires running from the back of the light housing, or are there wires that are inside that could be a problem....

i am not familiar with civics much, but i think it's close to my integra (all hondas are similar)

thanks for the help!!

Good luck, tell us how you got it to work when you fix it.

read my post, I had the EXACT same problem, it would blink fast most of the time, but sometimes it would blink normal. A new ground wire to the chassis fixed this.

that will tell you a lot. if it does still do it ...more than likely it Is a grounding issue. Reground it. I would also replace any bulbs that might appear to be corroded. A bulb might look good, but if the filiment is messed up or it is corroded even a tiny bit, it may register as a burnt bulb, and cause your blinker to blink fast. Good Luck
