Default Poor mpg, pls help.

Ok, my dd is a z6 del sol auto, I had horrible mpg since I got the car, around 24mpg (22-26), but since I installed a short ram + hks mushroom filter my mpg dropped to like 15, not kidding! My car runs alittle better. Where can I start to look at? Other then putting stock intake back? What test can I do? It's got new cables, dizzy, oil change, New coolant but runs hot but does not overheat, has the delay in 1st and then it takes off, those are the symptoms and details , what can I do?

Daaaaaamnnnn 24's bad enough in a Z6 even if it is an auto. But 15?! Something is seriously wrong here, and not something small like air in the tires. I can't even see a short ram/hks filter doing anything to decrease mpg.

i had 1/2 tank, drove about 30 miles, and im a little less than 1/4, i have to wait until i run out to see exact miles out of that tank, but i noticed the drastic drop and by my calculations i came up with 15.

Naw man you don't have to go through all that. Just fill up your tank, reset your trip to 0, drive a hundred miles or so, go refill the tank, see how many gallons you fill back into it and divide that into how many miles are on the trip and you'll see how many miles per gallon you get.

yeah the only way to accurately know is with a full tank of gas no gas gauge is any where near accurate enough to tell you anything other than a broad range of about how much gas you have left. There is no way putting the short ram or filter could give you those results. Lets start with the basics do you have any cels, when was the last time you replaced the plugs, dizzy, rotor, cap, and fuel filter as well as oil changes. You should have when you got the car, thats a good habit to get into. What is your drivin style (rpm range) and what is your driving city/highway. We need more info to help you here, but the symptoms you did list could indicate bad spark

all that was replaced no more than 3 weeks ago, i drive 95% freeway, no cel, i drive 3k to 5k, freeway 3k at 70miles, to start i try to kick it to 5k+ because anything lower dont move me, only thing i havent changed is sparks.

I dint know a better way to get the mpg, ima try that asap.

why would you change all that and not the plugs, definitely do that however i think your problem is something. Else that is if you have a problem which you may not judging by how you got your mpg based off the fuel gauge. Lets get that figured out first. You don't necessarily need to use a full tank you just need to fill it up so that you can use the gas pump to give you an accurate reading of how much gas you actually used

Install some new NGK spark plugs as Joel suggested and also check the ignition timing with a timing gun.

Does the CEL work?

All guys have given good info so far except cali-boi, I would change my spark plugs first and for most (make sure to gap them correctly) then change the fuel filter. Probably get a fuel system cleaning and if worse case get the injectors cleaned. (there is places that clean and blueprint injectors pretty cheap) Last resort is buy new injectors, any other causes should turn on ur CEL (if ur CEL bulb is working that is)

the places that clean injectors charge like a $100. You can get injectors off ebay for $30 no problem. However I had bad luck with that. If you go onto a local forum you could prly find someone who would let you swap them out for a day or something to see if that thats the problem . Just drive at least 50-100miles on them and you will know. It only takes 10 minutes tops to swap injectors. I would do what ronj said check the timing and make sure your cel does work when you turn the key does the cel flash to indicate it works?

ReplAced plugs with ngk's. Old one r as follow.

2. White on one side, purple ish the other, gray yellowish top(leg)
3. White bottom and purple upper part, gray yellowish top(leg)
4. Darker purple with one white spot, yellow top(leg)

What injectors did you have and what injectors you have now? I swapped in a B16 but kept my OBD1 injectors off my stock Civic CX. I have horrible gas mileage also.
