Default Intermittent Spark Issue help?

95 Civic DX with a (96'-00') D16Y7. Distributor is TD41U.

Had a no spark condition. Changed Coil, runs. It died suddenly while on test drive after repair. Changed Ignitor. This morning there was spark at the coil. Went ahead and threw in New Cap, Rotor, Wires, Plugs. Cranked it over, no start. Opened it back up.. no spark at the coil... I'm thinking either the replacement ignitor went bad, or I have a bad ecu..??

Any guesses?

Your old cap, rotor, plugs, and wires may have blown the new coil. Ohm test it. Click the Spark link in my signature.

CEL codes?

Does the fuel pump prime?

What ECU?

Thanks for quick response. After last good spark test at coil, immediately bolted on new cap, rotor, wires, plugs. Will check resistance on the Coil again.

Dont see any CEL. Will go scan it anyway.

Fuel pump does prime at key on. There's even an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel filter fitting that shows pressure in the line.

Don't have the ECU info just yet, will dig that up.

Thanks again!

As it stands.. car still cranks with no start.

Voltage at ICM, Coil.. Coil resistance check good. But when I do a voltage check with my Power Probe, with the key on, it shows me that the Secondary (coil output) circuit is holding steady at 10.6 volts.

I thought the coil should cycle between off and on while running. This indicate anything?

ecu info is on the ecu itself. what troubleshooting are you doing that is showing coil is within spec.

Did the usual coil resistance check on the Primary Curcuit and Secondary Curcuit. Which tested at .7 ohms Primary, 16.xx ohms on the Secondary.

I guess I'm trying to eliminate all of the possible suspects before doing the ecu. As I am in Hawaii. There are not a very prevalent source of ecu's around.

The good news.. Ign Coil sparked..

Bad.. Car battery was too weak after testing to crank motor for test fire.

After all the diagnosing.. Changing ignition coil, ICM (x2).. I was thrown off after the car starting and running after a Ignition Coil replacement. It died while on a test drive. And never started again.

I went ahead and disassembled the G101 Ground Wire to Thermostat housing. It didn't look that corroded at all. But I went ahead and scraped the ground wire ring connector, flange on the thermostat housing, and the bottom of the screw head (the under side of the screw head that directly contacts the ground wire ring connector).. Scrubbed it all down to bare metal with a wire brush. It finally sparked!!

Will go for test drive in the morning after full battery charge. Thanks again guys for all the help!!

Success.. Lucee runs!!

Seems it ultimately came down to the G101 ground wire being corroded.
