Default installing hood pins?

From what i under stand it goes something like this

1. Use the factory holes to put the pins on, or use the stoppers and drill a hole through them
2. Then with a touch of grease put it on top of the pin and close the hood on top of it so it can have grease on the cf hood
(this is the part that i dont undersatnd really, how does the grease actually show? does it like bleed through, and what kind of grease do i use?)
3. Drill your starting point with the mark from the grease
4. Once you drill for the hole of the pin, close the cf hood so that the hood pin would come threw
5. Then now all you gotta do is take the rest of the hood pin and line it up on top of the hole and screw in the bolts

Is that the rigth way to do it, and can someone explain the grease to me

Any heavy grease will work. You put a small "glob" on the tip of each pin, then lower the hood onto them. When you raise the hood again, there will be two smears of grease on the underside. This is where you make the holes. I'm not sure what you mean by "bleed through", but the grease will be pretty visible.

it wont bleed through. you drill the holes from the underside where the marks are.

The grease is easy because it wipes off and it's thick. I suppose you could use paint, but then you'd have paint on the hood pin, and I'm not sure how well it would actually work. By grease, we mean grease, the thick "pasty" kind.

Maybe you haven't been around long enough, but it has happened many times, and there have been a number of "My CF hood flew up" threads here on H-T. Hood pins are always a smart idea with a CF hood.

i actually just installed my hood pins the other day. i used shaving cream to put on the pins then i lowered the hood down and drilled a hole on the underside of the hood where the shaving cream showed up. after i drilled through the first layer, i put more shaving cream on the pins and lowered the hood again and saw where the hood touched the pins once again. then from the bottom i drilled through the top of the hood exactly where the shaving cream touched. after you get the hole big enough, you should be able to lower the hood all the way down and have the pins stick out the top. then proceed to install the rest of the hood pin locking mechanism (install was on a VIS hood with sparco hood pins)

You can also use car wax (the paste kind) if you dont have any grease around.
