d15b from tiger, jdm sohc vtec. About $700 shipped and you'll have money for a new clutch, timing belt water pump, plugs, wires, oil, coolant, maybe a cheap header and intake. I'll sell you an exhaust later.

IMO save up more, even if you get a B18B motor, its still going to be faster with and without mods. Atleast B series opens the gateway to more mods. Think of if you have the best D series and still have long gears and no power then what? Aftermarket parts are the only option. Atleast with even a lower end B series there are several different upgrades from other stock motors and then there is aftermarket support. Everyone looks at things differently. I see it as more potential.

I spent just under $1000 for my LS swap, That included new clutch, timing belt, water pump, axles, tuneup, gaskets, new distributor, wiring harness, fluids, OBD1 PR4 and OBD1 P75, LS throttle cable, misc parts not mentioned.
So with your budget in mind, you can definately go with a b-series swap and will be much happier with the end result.

I would check import yards first, a pretty good LS is not hard to come by. But if all else fails check on hmotorsonline.com. Looking local would probably be your best bet.

you should be able to find a complete ls swap for less than a grand and have some money left over for odds and ends. if your lucky you might find someone with a b16, but you'll more than likely get a ls tranny. check craigslist for integras that look rough as ****, but are driveable, then go test drive and lowball, you'd be surprised at how many integras you can find for a grand or a little more. if you go with a junkyard, the complete swap should cost about 300 leaving you money to rebuild the motor and have a fresh engine for dumb cheap
