Hey i think my oil pump may be dying on my b16...

is there any test to see if that is it?

or how to tell if there bad..

Connect an oil pressure gauge where the oil pressure switch is to measure the fuel pressure.

What should it be at? If it was going out would my oil light in instrument cluster be on?

If the oil pressure is too low the light should light up.

At idle oil pressure should be 10psi and at 3000 rpm the pressure should be 50psi.

so if the oil pump was dying would the light be on at idle?

Yes, assuming that the oil pressure switch and light work.

they do, I have a brand new oil pressure sensor/switch. and the lights work..

if your oil light is on and you replaced the sensor already you still could be looking at more things beside the oil pump...

could be somethign simple like your oil filter is clogged or the wrong oil filter or even wrong oil resulting in a restriction of your oil flow.

another idea that i hear tossed around but wonder myself about (will explain why shortly) is bad bearings. the theory is your bad bearings will make your oil channels bigger whcih would screw with the pressure. think garden hose style for a moment...if you put your finger over the end it will create more pressure....if you take your finger off the end it will lessen the pressure.

now what i dont agree (or understand for that matter) is the oil still should be read at the filter area way before it reaches the end path of yoru bearings. the filter area (with bad bearings) still should be 10 psi where the bearing area might be 2 psi on the bearings. how can the sensor read this 2 psi since it is at the end?

im just rambling...do an oil change and make sure you have the rght filter installed and such.

you have checked the oil? I know when mine is low the light will come on every so often.
