Remove the under-hood 7.5A Back Up fuse for about one minute and then reinsert. This will clear the ECU.
However, if the fault that caused the CEL code still exists, then the CEL will turn ON again the next time you turn the key to ON(II), run the engine, or drive the car.

Actually, on 96-00 civics, you have to take out the backup fuse for longer than one minute. I took my backup fuse for a few minutes and the ECU didn't reset. Then I took it out for 10 minutes, and it reset.
Edit: Never mind, that's a 94 civic.

Re: How to reset/turn off engine light
just for my sake, can you just unhook the negative battery terminal for a little while? that's how i have been doing it, and it seems to work just fine?

Re: How to reset/turn off engine light
unless your like me, i have my negative terminal real loose because i have to unhook it often because my alarm sets itself, making working on my car or even cleaning it. haha but, i realized i can just open a door and it works the same, i suppose i could tighten it by this point. but, i'll stop getting off topic with this one. haha

That's a bad idea. The connection has to be good (i.e. you have to tighten up the connector to the negative terminal) if you don't want any electrical problems.
