thats the firewall mat right? i hear that it is heavy! I would assume you have to take out the whole dash in order to remove that

I took it out on my project hatch it didnt feel too heavy. You have to take a lot more then just the dash out to get it off. There is lots of stuff under the dash.
To take the dash off there are bolts behind a little plastic panel in the door jam. Just open your door and look where you dash raps around you will see the plastic panel, pry that off and there are two bolts there. Then there is a bolt behind the center vent on the top of your dash. You have to take out your ac/heater controls also I believe. I think there is a bolt someplace around there (behind the ac/heater controls) ill look when I get home. If you do a search I on how to take the dash off I'm sure you will find something.

pull up carpet, and PULL. You leave a little of the rubber mat behind the heater box, but not much.

take the bolts out by where the door jam is behind the little plastic panels u can take out... on an ek at least... u have to drop the steering colum which is held up by a few bolts... u can see them easily... take out the screw by the windshield... in the middle under the little plastic cover and take out the bolts that attatch the dash to the floor under the lower center console...
then u can take off everything else (at least i did) and rip the mat off... some pieces stay behind the pedal assemblies... where they bolt up that is
